Prepping Your Home For Wildfires

2/21/2022 (Permalink)

With California being the most wildfire-prone state it’s important to be prepared for any potential wildfires. With 4 Million acres burned due to individual wildfires in 2020, there is always a chance your town and home can be threatened by these disasters. With that said, here are some ideas on how to prepare your home against a wildfire.

  • Keep flammable objects at least 30 feet away from the home at all times. Move flammables, such as furniture and toys during wildfire activity.
  • Keep roofs, gutters, decks and patios clear of leaves, pine needles or other flammables at all times
  • Removes flammable mulch and vegetation within 5 feet of the home and replace with nonflammable material.
  • Remove tree or shrub branches that overhang within 10 feet of your house, roof or chimney.
  • Keep lawn watered and mowed, or if water-conserving, make sure debris is removed 30 feet of home.
  • Trim tree limbs 10 feet above ground.
  • Consider installing ?-inch metal mesh screens over vents and under decks to prevent amber intrusion.

There are many ways you can prepare your home for a wildfire, and should always be considered especially during fire season. These are some of the most important tips on how to keep your home safe.
