Being proactive in preparing your property from storm damage before it starts can be greatly beneficial and save you money in the long run.  Before winter storms season hits have you done everything you can to prevent storm damage from your home?

Some preventive tips you can do to keep your house from suffering from storm damage is:

  1. Clean out gutters and downspouts. Backed up gutters and downspouts are one of the leading cause of roof damage. Clean out gutters and downspouts before winter storms start and often during the winter months.
  2. Sump pump annually. If you have a sump pump under your house for standing storm water, make sure it has power and it has had annual maintenance. You do not want to find out it doesn’t work when it is too late.
  3. Check the windows and door seals. Make sure they are not sun damaged and cracked. Forced water caused by winds can leak through window and door seals that are wore out.
  4. Check all your pipes and makes sure they are insulated from the outside weather. Freezing pipes will bust and once the water melts it could cause major damage to your structure.
  5. Review your insurance coverage. Make sure you are aware of structure and content damage coverage. Know your deductible.

SERVPRO of South Shasta County can provide you with any emergency and nonemergency storm damage. Leaking roof, leaking pipes, fallen tree, flooding, and much more.
